So it begins...

Anyone who knows me, knows I have five  major loves;

Coffee...the habit I have had since I was six (long story, and no, my parents did not know) and have not been able to shake since.

Books...Probably the most obsessive and unhealthy relationship I have, and the longest. Books and I are two peas in a pod, they are my best friend. I have warned my husband not to make me choose between them...which leads to...

My husband. We met when I was 17 and have been madly in love with him ever since. Luckily, he feels the same way, because there would be no way he could tolerate me 14 years without being crazy for me as well (or just crazy.)

My kids. I have five here, and one waiting for me in Heaven. They are 12 down to 3, and I love the madness and chaotic challenge of trying to raise saints with my genetics. Any parent can tell you how marriage and parenthood is a vocation: I am challenged everyday to be a better person in my efforts to make them good persons.

And finally...

Crafting. This has three major forms of crochet, knitting, and quilting. I do other crafts, like needlepoint, but those are the big three. I am usually making something every day. Or five things. Right now it is a ripple crocheted baby blanket in camo colors for my first ever nephew.

And here is my basic bio, besides being married, having a herd of kids, and crafting: My name is K, I am a convert to the Catholic faith. My favorite saints are St. Maria Goretti, St. Benedict, St. Therese the little flower, and St. Mother Theresa.

 I am a sort of homeschool mom. I did it for five years (with a one semester break once), and last winter, I put my older two kids in school. It was ok, and hubby likes the sports. But one year later, he is on board with bringing home for good. Seriously, we are definitly a homeschooling family. My first year schooling all five kids begins in August.

We are also a family who has other "skills" that usually fall under the homesteading heading, though that's not quite right. Survivalist? Hippy? Throwback? Country? Help me pick a label! We like to do what we can at our own home. I can can anything- chicken, veggies, apple pie filling, the works. We have milk cows, I make yogurt by the gallon (5 kids, hello!), our main source of protein are the animals we hunt (usually deer). My oldest can kill, field dress, skin, quarter, debone, and fully package and process a deer by himself, and could since he was 10. (Full disclosure- I can kill, field dress, have a vague theory on how to do everything else, and can process a deer). We garden, my hubby has an apiary, I can spin wool, and can take raw cotton (still in the boll) and turn it into a sweater. I love to fish, and I'm a crack shot (though my hubby is better with a shotgun).

I am also a junior in college. (I don't have enough to do, right?) I'm earning my degree in English, and I'm soooo glad I'm almost there. That 16 year degree plan is a killer! Just kidding- I stopped to raise kids first. I am also a part-time waitress because I love my job, my boss, and socializing with the world in a controlled setting. (I am a major introvert.) The workout and cash that comes from it is pretty awesome too.

And finally, I'm weird. I was a goth cowgirl in high school who did all four years in Drama and ROTC who read Edgar Allan Poe and Tolkien. I outgrew the Goth part, and never joined the military. I love fantasy and sci-fi to the point that I feel like I am a part of every fandom. (I could tell from the bathroom the other night that my husband was watching Sherlock because I recognized the sultry sound of Benedict Cumberbatch.) I was born in Alaska, grew up in New Mexico (mostly) and live in Texas. My weird hippy upbringing comes out sometimes, though I'm considered a "conservative".

Well, that's probably not all of it, but that's a good idea of who I am. That weird Catholic mom.
